Statement of Faith

  1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God that reveals his love to the world.
  2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in his sinless life, in His miracles, in His atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
  4. We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the power of the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
  5. We believe in the innate and intrinsic value of each person because they are uniquely and intentionally created by God, in his own image.  Because of each persons’ God given value, we joyfully seek to love them as Christ first loved us.
  6. We believe that the ministry of evangelism (proclaiming the Gospel message of salvation found only in Jesus) and discipleship (helping followers of Jesus grow to become more like Christ) is a responsibility of all followers of Jesus.
  7. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
  8. We believe in the power of prayer and seek to model Jesus’ example praying in all times on all occasions with all kinds of prayer and requests. Prayer has been and must be central to our ministry.
  9. We believe that God’s justifying grace must not be separate from His sanctifying power and purpose. God commands us to love Him supremely and others sacrificially, and to live out our faith with care for one another, compassion toward the poor, and justice for the oppressed. With God’s Word, the Spirit’s power, and fervent prayer in Christ’s name, we are able to combat sexual exploitation. In obedience to Christ’s commission, we seek to make disciples among all people, always bearing witness to the gospel in word and deed.
  10. We intend to celebrate a biblical view of sexuality. Man is for woman and woman is for man. Heterosexual marriage is the space for good sexual intimacy. Any other relationship where there is sexual activity is sin and requires the truth and grace of the gospel. We will be a community of light and hope.

Our Story

In 2021 a group from Faith Church and I began to pray about how we might serve people who've experienced commercial sexual exploitation in our community. It was from discussion and prayer at those weekly meetings that the vision for Sheltered91 was born. ShCeltered91 is based on Psalm 91:4, "He will cover you with His feathers and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart." Prayer team members and others with a passion to help survivors formed a board. Sheltered91 was incorporated in October 2021 and was registered as a 501(c)(3) organization in May of 2022. t happens.
